Welcome to FORWARD EDIT!
Thanks for
dropping by.
Picture post production for films and TV
is what FORWARD EDIT is all about. Anything that interacts
with or influences this world is fair game. Art and tech.
Philosophy and workflows. Filmmakers and their art: past,
present, and future.
Is post production even an accurate term today? I believe
we are moving towards a tighter integration of the crafts
within the filmmaking process. Camera selection, data
storage and color timing during production, production
design and HD: these are just a few decisions that have
significant impacts on post, and ultimately, the director’s
vision. And, of course, editorial is usually the department
that is on any project longer than almost any other. This
all speaks to the need for better communication,
collaboration, teamwork. How can we help our prep and
production brethren and therefore get better results on the
screen?
Perhaps a tighter integration of art and technology is an
answer. It’s happening slowly, but the two disciplines are
still too often viewed as separate entities. CGI, 3D, HD,
VFX, motion capture, previz, and animation are all
propelling motion pictures into a vibrant new realm and
assisting in the story telling process. Certainly anyone
who works in these fields is an artist. But isn’t selecting
an appropriate codec or organizing an immense number of
shots an art as well? Tech and art, unite!
Promoting the cause of editing, for the common good.
